PCA8550 device highlightIntroduction
As a result of a design for Intel's Pentium® II processor chipsets,
NXP Semiconductors announced the PCA8550 multiplexer to provide "jumperless" motherboard configuration settings.
The Inter-IC (I2C) multiplexer can be applied to other motherboards and peripheral cards to easily replace mechanical settings with software configurations.
This latest application of the I2C bus addresses the long-standing user issue of cumbersome, time-consuming hardware reconfiguration with jumpers or mechanical switches.
Motherboard and peripheral board manufacturers can offer users easy configuration capabilities and eliminate in-box access requirements, thus minimizing the potential damage and time required to configure boards and computers.
